The Sinking Island was the first book I published under my own imprint, Managansett Press. It was originally written for and sold to Lost Worlds Press, a specialty published, who planned to issue it under the title Outcasts of Lost Island. Unfortunately they went out of business prior to publication. It is meant as a kind of homage to the classic lost world novel made popular by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. Rider Haggard, and others, but it also was influenced significantly by one of my all time favorites, The Boats of the Glen Carrig by William Hope Hodgson. Shortly prior to the outbreak of World War II, a freighter carrying a handful of passengers is heavily damaged in a storm while crossing the Pacific. Some of the survivors find an uncharted island which has traces of an apparently extinct civilization. But something stalks them during the nights and the island may not be uninhabited after all.
